David started working for BP in 1977 and held a variety of commercial roles before becoming the global head of planning and strategy for BP’s refining and marketing businesses in 1991. In 1993 David moved into IT management as the Head of Information Systems (CIO) for BP’s refining and businesses globally. In this and subsequent IT management roles David led, managed and renegotiated many of BP’s largest IT outsourcing deals and became a leading member of BP’s Outsourcing Network providing internal advice on outsourcing across all supporting services (accountancy, HR etc). David’s final role before retiring was Director, Commercial Services responsible for all BP’s IT negotiations and contracts – a portfolio of $1.2billion of 3rd party spend. David retired from BP in mid 2005 and has set up an independent Outsourcing Consultancy which is providing assistance to clients with the initial outsourcing transaction and the subsequent contract management challenges. |
John worked for 20 years at Friends Provident as an Underwriting Manager & then Service Centre Manager. His next role was as Customer Services Director at Preferred Direct . John joined Zurich in 1998, initially as Operations Director for Eagle Star Direct and then as Transformation Director with Zurich Retail Financial Services. He became involved in Offshoring in 2001 & led the vendor selection and set-up of the Offshore operations with MphasiS in India from 2002. More recently, John led the vendor selection work for the Finance & Accounting outsourcing arrangements with Cap Gemini. |
Clarence has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Outsource Partners International since 2002, when the firm acquired the BPO practice of KPMG. He has extensive Finance and Accounting experience and an established track record in building and operating professional service businesses. In addition, his background includes considerable expertise in M&A and private equity transactions. He was a co-founder of Golenberg Schmitz Capital Partners, a Los Angeles merchant banking firm that focused on early stage businesses and technologies with investments and strategic counsel. From 1995 to 2000, he served as Executive Vice President and CFO of Jefferies Group, Inc. He also was a Director of Jefferies & Company, Inc. and chaired the credit committee. His responsibilities also included serving on the executive committee and the underwriting approval committee. His career includes 25 years with KPMG, with numerous leadership positions in the United States and overseas, as well as serving on the board of directors and the management committee. Among his many responsibilities at KPMG, he was national Managing Partner of the Manufacturing, Retailing and Distribution line of business and chaired the International Manufacturing Committee from 1993-95. He was Managing Partner of the Los Angeles Business Unit from 1990-93, and Chairman of KPMG's International M&A Consulting Group from 1987-90. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Case Western Reserve University and was elected Alumnus of the Year. Among his many civic activities, he currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Childhood Cancer Foundation. |
Per Selbekk, IT Development Director, joined 3 in mid 2002. He has previously held European CIO roles for both Carrier1 a telecom provider, and UUnet, the largest provider of IP connections in the world (now part of MCI). He holds an MIM from Thunderbird – American Graduate School of International Management. At 3, Mr. Selbekk has taken the company through the launch phase, and his teams have developed and deployed new innovative products leveraging the 3G technologies. 3 has also built a state of the art BSS solution building on many best in class applications which all have been tightly integrated. The challenge is to scale the IT infrastructure ahead of the rapid customer growth and to keep on developing new and innovative products for the customer base. |
Richard is Strategic Solutions Director at HML with responsibility for: strategy and planning, IT, Business process management, Programme and project management; all adding up to a role leading the corporate transformation process. He has more than 25 years experience in the IT industry, and has spent the last ten years working in business transformation. He has worked for three major IT consultancies, and has worked in the UK, North America, South Africa, and a number of European countries. He was previously Business Development Director at Xansa, a UK IT services company, and before that Solutions Director, Financial Services for Computer Sciences Corporation in Europe. He joined HML in 2003 to manage a large change programme to establish two new processing sites, in Londonderry and in Padiham, Lancashire. Since joining HML he has also established the project management and business process management functions. He was appointed Strategic Solutions Director in 2005. |
Gerard is head of Customer Operations, Loyalty Management UK and responsible for the registration, fulfilment and customer service operations at LMUK, the company behind the highly successful Nectar loyalty programme in the U.K. This is a remit which covers on and offshore call centres. His previous CRM & Loyalty experience included stints at Maritz, Air Miles and EDS e-solutions. |
Chris is Head of Audit for all 3rd party arrangements for Barclays Bank globally. Chris has over 20 years of experience of dealing with 3rd parties. Prior to joining Barclays Internal Audit in April 2004, Chris held a leading role in PwC’s cross-industry IT outsourcing practice, specialising in advising clients on sourcing, establishing and managing outsourcing arrangements and alliances. Chris has extensive experience of supplier and service management in both IT and business operations. He has advised on business process and IT outsourcing; improving the performance of IT organisations; IT strategy, planning and management; project management and the establishment of operations and joint venture organisations. While working for American Express Bank, he managed a $450m international outsourcing relationship with EDS. This included IT infrastructure and software development and maintenance. As Programme Director, Betsy Bassis is currently responsible for British Gas’ offshoring programme to India. Prior to this role, Betsy worked as Special Assistant to the Chief Executive of Centrica, British Gas’ parent company. Betsy originally joined Centrica in 2002 when the company acquired the UK’s largest natural gas storage facility from Dynegy, where she was part of the commercial team. Before moving to the UK, Betsy worked for Enron in Puerto Rico and for an international development firm in DC, where she led their business development activities in Latin America. Betsy completed her undergraduate degree at Stanford University and later received an MBA from Wharton. |

Richard has spent most of his working life within the Travel industry. 10 years working overseas running destination gateways for First Choice Holidays was supplemented by an MBA from the University of Bradford Management Centre. A 5 year stint with easyJet followed where he held the position of Contracts Manager. This was during the time that easyJet grew from a virtual airline to one that flew 38 Boeings around Europe and had been successfully floated on the LSE. After a 2 and a half year period with the insurer AIG he moved to become Business Director at Jet2.com. Responsible for all company revenue streams not directly associated with seat sales, he specifically manages the ancillary service partners, on board product and the call centre. |
Bill Thomson is president, Asia and president, support services and chief representative in China for Clyde Blowers Group, as well as being chairman of Shanghai Clyde Bergemann and chairman of Clyde Huatong. He has been executive director of Clyde Blowers Group since 1992 since when he has travelled extensively to China (92 times) on behalf of the group. He is also a director of UK Trade & Investment. |
Connie Carnabuci is a partner and head of the IP/IT practice group and telecommunications, media and technology (TMT) sector group in Asia. Her practice covers stand alone IP/IT work including IT outsourcing, systems acquisition and development agreements, telecommunications agreements. Her IP practice includes copyright, trade mark and patent protection, enforcement and commercialisation advice, with particular expertise in e-commerce/internet issues. She also advises on the IP/IT aspects of acquisitions, spin offs, joint ventures, IPOs and demutualisations. Danelle is head of the non-contentious IT and telecommunications practice in the UK. She advises on technology and telecommunications transactions. Her key clients include Barclays, Cable & Wireless, COLT Telecommunications and MCI. Danelle is recognised for her expertise in IT, Telecoms and Business Process outsourcing contracts - onshore and offshore; call-off contracts for communications and technology services and products; software development and system integration contracts; and various IT and business process re-engineering service contracts. |
Since joining Marsh in 2001, Patrick has developed a number of improvement initiatives, encompassing: the redesign of key business processes; the introduction of customer service training and customer relationship management programmes; and a performance management framework, to ensure that service excellence remains at the core of the practice’s operations. Prior to which he set up and ran the shared post-placement services for Alexander Forbes in the UK. Peter is a qualified chartered accountant with extensive experience of Shared Services, process optimization and automation in both BPO and in-house environments. Peter worked for KPMG Consulting for 17 years, including six years as a partner, where he specialized in finance process improvement. He also led KPMG’s large and successful World Class Finance team, which included large pan-European Shared Services projects for blue chip clients. Most currently he has focused on the use of new and emerging technologies for making step changes in process efficiency, which has resulted in clients achieving performance levels well above accepted first quarterly benchmarks. He has played a key role in Shared Services and BPO deals for Nestlé, Serono, Siemens and others. |
Debbie has been involved in the development of Shared Services in the public sector for more than 15 years, covering a range of strategy, consulting and operational responsibilities and has developed extensive experience in using shared service to deliver transformation. During that time she has worked extensively with all areas of the public sector, including Central Government departments, Agencies, NDPB’s and several Local Authorities and latterly has specialised in the creation of services to meet the needs of the NHS. Debbie joined Xansa in 2004, from another leading BPO provider to the public sector to and has been heavily involved in supporting Xansa’s strategy of developing Government Services culminating in the creation of NHS Shared Business Services, the innovative joint venture between Xansa and the Department of Health. .Debbie also represents Xansa on several advisory groups looking at the application and use of shared services within the public sector. |
